Allegiant flies much fewer flights per day compared to Southwest and American, according to Cirium data, but its cancelation rate was the fourth-worst in the US at 4.43% between January and June 2022. Allegiant was lower on the list, delaying about 15,000 and canceling 820 in the same time frame. Southwest had the highest number of delays with over 135,000, while American canceled just under 94,000. Between May 1 and August 31, carriers have delayed or canceled about 766,000 flights flying to, within, or out of the US, per FlightAware data. The DOT has been making efforts to better airline customer service after a summer of travel chaos. Allegiant clarified to Insider that it is "in the process of publishing the information from our contract of carriage on the DOT dashboard and expects it to be updated next week." The DOT may mandate delay compensation The DOT said it has been in touch with all airlines during the rollout of the dashboard, including Allegiant, per TPG. And, for those extending over four hours, a meal or meal voucher is offered. Moreover, the carrier provides free hotels and grand transport "in many cases."įor delays, Allegiant told Insider they offer travelers complimentary non-alcoholic drinks and snacks. The airline outlined an example of its cancelation offering, saying, "we offer customers re-accommodation on other flights or refunds for the affected leg of their trip."Īllegiant also said that "depending on the circumstances and length of delay," it also offers vouchers and cash compensation. In a statement to Insider, Allegiant said it welcomes and supports the DOT's new platform but it "does not in its current form accurately portray all that Allegiant does for its customers in the event of cancellations and schedule changes." Nor will they automatically provide a meal or cash voucher, or a complimentary hotel stay or ground transportation. In the case of a controllable delay or cancellation, Allegiant can not guarantee passengers will be rebooked on the same airline or a different airline.
